I was born and raised on the island of Barbados , where I enjoyed the beaches, the food, and the friends I've made over the years. Originally I came from a background in Computer Science, interestingly enough where I focused on Web Development, which was my weakest area at the time. After graduating, I was lucky enough to land an internship where I learned to design and develop live websites. It was an important 7 months and time that I would never regret, and through this, I began to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. It became my first exposure to real development and UX.
I recently graduated from Humber's UX Design Program, where I learned so much more about UX. Since going to Humber I've learned a variety of stuff such as User Research, empathizing with others to find the root of the problem. Learning different brainstorming techniques to help me and teammates to generate ideas. The usuals sketching, wireframing, and prototyping skills and how to properly conduct Usability Testing to see if our assumptions were correct.
After Humber, I interned at Design.local where I got the chance to redesign their website along with some classmates of mine. Since then I've been trying my best to keep busy, learning React, and Node.js to keep my coding skills current. Planning and building my portfolio as well as trying to beat Ghost of Tsushima and get out of Bronze in League of Legends. Some of the other skills I gained overtime include skills such as Sketching, Wireframing, Prototyping, and being able to use all of these to bring a fully-fledged Website, App, or Experience to fruition. I also learned to be able to take feedback and use it to improve on any of my designs or ideas that are being implemented to try and bring about the best experience or solution possible.
Some other skills I picked up would be User Research skills such as conducting User Interviews and Usability Testing, to be able to discover the motivations, experiences, and problems users may face with as much empathy as possible. Finally one of the most interesting things I've learned and definitely still need to work on is Information Architecture and Nav Design, being able to identify where content belongs and how to make the best navigation or footer for the users.
